This is really an odd one for the HSV forum, but I was wondering if any of you know of any shipping container homes that are in the area.

I really like the modern/industrial look of them, I would like to see one in person, and was curious if they are even allowed in under the current building code.

I should probably just go hang out at Lowe Mill and ask around, but I hate the smell of patchouli....

Thanks!

I think the shipping container home is unique to internet photo galleries. I've never seen one in real life.

Well, not the ones made of beautiful wood and glass. I just see rusty Hangsen containers with office supplies stored in them.

I've seen them on tv and in mags but never seen one around here. You might have to be the 1st.

haha, no, I won't be doing one. But yes, I have only seen them online as well, wanted to see if something like that could be done around here.

I think most people with the money to make one as nice as what we see on the internet don't want to live in trailers.

Sorry to hear business is bad, Dave. You can actually rent a 10x10 storage unit for around $50 and live in it. If you are willing to work, I need some help with my flugtag design, boiled peanut business, and LARPing.

I have a large, 36x40 shop that I built with two shipping containers. When I first started talking about it, Mrs Catfish was not impressed, and she wasn't on board. Once it came together she likes it. It also serves as our storm shelter.

It gets lots of comments, and even had a guy stop and ask if he could take pictures. The problem is back when I started it, containers were dirt cheap. As more people use them, and we buy less crap from China, the prices of containers has gone out of sight. It isn't as cost effective as it was 5 years ago.

Have you seen the prices on some of those container homes? Not something for someone who's business is bad. I saw a spread on one about 2 months ago that ran about 350,000.00 and was almost 3,000 sq ft.

Thanks for the info, novelistspouse. What a silly idea to pay over $100 sqft for a container home. I remain skeptical unless LCT says it is a smart move.

I have seen photos of container homes too but I don't know if they would work for me. I just heard about using containers as fish farms. There is a company in FL who is selling them.
