From what DD tells me, the Huntsville Christmas parade was kind of a bust. At least for them. ONE band? That's poor.

Went to the Tinsel Trail this weekend.

While there were more trees this year, I didn't care that much for the setup.

I understand it takes money and sponsors to do it, but most of the trees were just advertisements for the sponsoring company.

I might get flamed for this but... I think most of the Huntsville parades are lame. Schools here are not big on marching bands. Madison City isn't, Madison County isn't, and Huntsville City isn't. I'm not saying they don't have bands, but I do miss out west where parades are filled with middle and high school bands. My wife loves parades so we go to every one we can, but it'd be nice if schools here felt more community pride. They have this mentality that if the public wants to see what they're up to, they need to attend the school community concerts. Totally wrong attitude in my opinion.

The last time I saw A&M's band downtown, I was awestruck. There is at least one good band (of course, I saw it several years ago so perhaps things have changed).

I always miss the Christmas parade--just too cold. Other parades at other times of the year--yes! More and better marching bands--yes!

I've noticed this too. We had about 200 band member at my high school down in Florida. The band plus color guard took up 1/3 of the home bleacher section. Bob Jones band seems pretty large, but Lee's isn't that big and Columbia's is quite dreadful.

I've always gotten the feeling that the "arts" has always taken a back seat.
