Christmas Card Lane invites wandering, wonderment in Downtown Madison | AL.com

Quote:
MADISON, Alabama - Like a child clinging to their favorite toy, Shrail Heinrich just couldn't let go of one of her three favorite Christmas traditions.

And then she persuaded the Madison Arts Council to share it with the entire community by establishing Christmas Card Lane downtown.

Heinrich, president of the arts council, said growing up in Huntsville in the 1970s and'80s, there were three things families visited in their cars during the holidays:
  • Huntsville Memory Gardens where the Christmas story was told through life-size figurines;
  • Horseshoe Trail Southeast where the Lanzas and Higginbothams had extravagant displays; and
  • Holmes Avenue, where residents painted and displayed their own Christmas cards facing the road.
"That's just a childhood memory that I cherished. And I wanted to bring it back to the community. We hope Christmas Card Lane provides not only visual enjoyment, but creates memories and a new tradition for many," she said.
