This may of been mentioned before but I found ALDOT's proposal for widening 72:

US-72 WEST

Looks like it's going to be a while before construction begins and even longer before it is completed.

I don't see dates on that site, but yes, ALDONT will ensure it will be another 15-25 years before it is done.

Yeah, they will drag that on forever. As Maya Blue stated, probably around the 20 year range. They will survey, engineer, postpone, re-survey, re-enginner and postpone that at least 4 or 5 times in 5 year increments like they did the Hwy 53 4 laning. They probably spent enough surveying and re-engineering that over 20 years they could have done half of it. ALDONT is a complete joke. All they are good at is wasting our tax dollars making proposals and talking about what needs to be done.

It's supposed to start in 2016 and be done in 2018.

Pfffft, Madison is about to throw a bunch of money away on pre-engineering more than likely. I will be shocked if ALDONT doesn't postpone this thing and then it all has to be re-engineered again 5 years from now.

I'm a little confused by that loopty-loop lane in front of the Kroger

From those pictures it doesn't appear as if they are 6 laning the entire thing.

I noticed that too. Gotta be for U-turn traffic, but can't say that I've seen a similar design in Huntsville or anywhere else in Alabama.

I counted six lanes in all of those pictures.

There is a similar design in Alabama. It will be very similar to U.S. 280 near I-459 in Birmingham
