Give it a try taking just those two documents and let us know if they issue you a Star ID.

All I needed was my birth certificate and my social security card for my passport, the only other item I see is for the address documentation and those are typically things every one has, like a utility bill.

It gives alternates in case some of those documents are not available or to be used for additional documentation. In my son's case, he has a German birth certificate so we always have to take his Consular's Report of Birth as well, typically they want to see both.

My friend got hers in Marshall county and it took her 7 hours because there is only one person at the DL and they do everything. Hopefully with the new increase in DL cost they will add some more people to help with the long wait.

I don't need one at the moment but it wouldn't be a problem other than county offices are always ridiculously slow.

If you read the requirements carefully, it clearly states you need ONE of each of those documents. It is basically just like getting a passport. No big deal other than wasting a day at the courthouse or other drivers license department.

The point of these new ID's are to require verifiable documentation to weed out those who have obtained drivers licenses with falsified documentation and increase security.

2 locations ONLY????

Obviously this NOT a priority for Alabama

Last time I tried the Arsenal DMV office it was at least a 2-hour wait. I said forget this and drove to the new Madison office and got in & out in 15 minutes. Too bad the field offices can not process the Star ID.

It is probably because the Madison County License Department and its satellite Locations handle license renewals only. Apparently the state is only using the drivers license examination offices for this.

Just wanted to add that you can now make online appointments for the DL offices. When I went to the Church St. location for my out-of-state transfer, it was announced to all of us who had been waiting.
