Corruption surrounding gambling?? AL is the 6th most corrupt state in the union...I guess if we got gambling/lottery it would put us last!! Are y'all seriously saying that not allowing gambling is "faith-based!!" I'm not a "fan" of gambling (I prefer spending money on shoes and purses), however I know the revenue it would bring the state (same as legalizing weed would)...and like Reactionary I would never support dog tracks - but, that's because of the animal cruelty that involves. If that much $$$ is going to surrounding states, then they seriously need to revisit the lottery!
This is a red state - then be truly red and don't raise taxes on the already poor working stiffs!

Yep. However, there is some leeway among the faithful - gambling is an adiaphora, but Southern Baptists don't like it (for lots of reasons, including the associated corruption).

SBC Resolution on Gambling 1984:

Quote:
Legislators of many states have shown shameful willingness to give shoddy and inadequate consideration to gambling legislation, to pass legislation out of committees without public hearings, and to schedule votes on gambling legislation in a manner carefully contrived to be beneficial to passage of the gambling legislation.
Southern Baptist Convention > Resolution On Gambling

BTW we're trying to eliminate the corruption - getting Democrats out of office (and into prison) was a good start.

Because taxes are paid by everybody. Whether at poverty level or a multimillionaire you pay taxes: sales, property, income, death. You don't have to play the lottery, you have to pay taxes.

And, only democrats are corrupt? Come on now...

Keep laughing and you won't learn a thing. BTW using absolute statements like "NO" and "only" don't improve your comments - we teach children not to use absolute statements like that - there can exist exceptions.

You haven't been here long enough to know about the pervasive Democratic Party corruption. For example, Representative Phil Williams (R - Monrovia) replaced a Democrat who stole from children (and served time in Federal prison for it).

Most Southern Baptists don't drink, smoke, gamble, curse, etc. Southern Baptists make up about a third of the State population.

Well, you'll just have to ignore my use of absolute statements - it is how I interpreted what you wrote, English is after all my second language.

I really don't care what political afflictions any of the AL politicians suffer from, corruption is corruption...& I'm pretty certain it runs rampant on both sides - AL wouldn't be 6th from the bottom if that weren't a fact. And I did learn something, I thought there were more than 1/3 of the population that were Southern Baptists :-)

Vikings I've known speak English better than most Americans

Never use absolutes. It's a rule (more of a suggestion) in the style of "Fumblerules". Reviewing my comment I see that I needed a smiley face.

Nope. Democrats are why Alabama ranks poorly on the corruption scale. In the Democrats defense, it could be because they ran the State for 140 years so there was no point in bribing the out of power party. The GOP rose to power in 2010 and one of their first acts was to pass ethics reforms.

They say that gambling is illegal but have you seen this: Home - Wind Creek Atmore Yes I know it's on Indian property. Blah, blah, blah. Let's give them more Indian property in the the northern counties of Alabama. They can obviously manage it better than the yahoos in Montgomery.

Millions of dollars goes to Tennessee, Georgia and Florida from Alabama residents every day, especially when the lottery rolls over after a few weeks. It's a self imposed tax levied on those that choose to participate. In Florida and Georgia if your student graduates from high school with 2.5 or greater GPA they receive scholarships that were funded by the lottery.

C'mon Alabama get with it and support participation in the lottery!
Mississippi lawmakers have voted against a lottery well before casinos came. Yet, somehow, we allowed casinos.

LMAO! at that statement.

You should say, they don't buy their liquor, beer or wine in the city in which they live; they don't smoke their cigars at church; they don't gamble in Alabama because there aren't many places to do so and they don't curse in front of their mother. They also don't bang the neighbors wife while they are at home but that is a given. lol
