Isn't this how all for profit companies function? If they didn't care about making money they wouldn't be there to provide their services. My issue with insurance companies are when they don't do what they said they would do.

Here is a real gotcha courtesy of the ACA.

The federal government was so desperate to get doctors to sign on to networks for ACA policies they promised them they would be reimbursed Medicare rates for the entire year of 2014. Starting in 2015 the reimbursement rates would revert back to the usual Medicaid rates.

Can you imagine a doctor be enticed by that enough to all of sudden take in a few more new patients in 2014 only to drop them in 2015?

Im sure their union gave them all the necessary warnings and pocedures to make sure they maintain the lifestyle and income they are used too. I wouldn't fret none for these theoretical doctors that lost everything from mean old Obamacare.

Fret or not the situation is real and unless a person wants to make the ER their medical provider there is very little many can do.

We have lots of single practitioners and small groups closing up shop... no younger Docs will to step in.

To run a compliant office takes many functions and staff.

A Doc only has so much time in a day... you decide how they are going to prioritize.

I do know one single practitioner and his entire staff is his family... even mother in-law!

He will see anyone and pays the price... he loves being a Doctor and his wife is also a teacher...

You can call them mean if you want but it doesn't change reality. A doctor is free to practice or not.
