The Fish Market on Sixth Avenue South in Birmingham has this wrapped up. They not only run a good restaurant on the premises, but they supply most of the fresh fish for other restaurants throughout northcentral Alabama.
They do sell to individuals as well. It is a large operation covering a half city block DT. They too started off as a truck that ran DAILY to the coast. Then everyone got smart and pooled their resources. The variety is astounding. Greek owned.

If I want to get a case of good quality frozen catfish, I go to Halsey Cash and Carry in Downtown Hsv.
If I want some really good fresh shrimp, or fish I bite the bullet and drive over to Elgin on Hwy 101. There is a little seafood market called Lash Seafood Market. He goes down to the gulf twice a week, and does a huge amount of business so it is always fresh. Try the gumbo while there.

Lash is just south of the intersection of Hwy 72 and Hwy 101 (Elgin Crossroads). Just north of Wheeler Dam.

That's the place I tried to recommend back in April, but my post got deleted because I'm a newbie.

If anyone in Madison is looking to buy fresh fish, the Vietnamese grocery store on Madison blvd now sells fresh fish on ice. I think they shipped from Atlanta whereas the A&V market ships from Mobile I believe. According to my wife, they will clean the fish for you if you are uncomfortable with fish guts & eyeballs.
