No, my apologies. When I've tried to take 31 to avoid a traffic jam on I-65, I was doing it wrong, because it was slower than if I'd have just stayed on I-65. I'll work on my technique. I'll figure it out eventually!

Traffic (and a couple red lights) sometimes causes my 8 minute commute from Madison to take 12 minutes. But when the County Line interchange opens on Friday and everyone stays off Wall Triana, I expect 8-10 minutes everyday!

I came from DC a year ago. I see my family about 2 hours more a day now.

While my commute in DC isn't anywhere near as bad as some of my colleagues, I've never wanted to get out of a place this much in my life...and that includes Montgomery.

We've lived all over the US and this has to be the most unhappy place I've ever seen. I have very few work colleagues that will actually say "Oh yeah...we love it here." I figure it's a combination of the congestion and the regulation along with a good side dish of being $300,000 upside-down on a mortgage that has everybody in such foul moods up here.

I figured out that not including our mortgage reduction, we'll save $36,000 a year in taxes and cost of living just by moving to Huntsville.

Ben

Cost of living in N. AL is certainly a bonus. I think I would be right in saying that most people who move here don't want to leave. And there is no more beautiful a place than Hampton Cove.

Cost of living here is ridiculously low compared to DC. My best friend just moved to McLean from the metro, and paid close to $1 million for a 2700 sft house that would have cost her $275k-$300k in this area. She sold her tiny 800sft 2 bedroom duplex near Georgetown for $550k. I have clients that sold their 4000 + sft home near Belvoir for $1.8 mil and to get something comparable here they are in the $500k-$600k range.

About 10 years ago we had the opportunity to move to Fairfax County as my DH had an opportunity at Ft Belvoir but good grief the house prices....

I am doing my ETDY in DC right now and the cost of housing around here borders on the ridiculous compared to Huntsville. We live near Old Town, Alexandria and the houses here are small, old, and VERY expensive. Every house starts at $1M+ and condos start at $500K but wait you'll need to add $800+ per month for the HOA! Many live more than an hour away commute to/ from work.

yes! Good grief! And I know salaries are adjusted depending on location, but when you factor in the cost of real estate, TAXES, commute time, mileage on your car, gas, etc. the adjustment isn't NEARLY enough.

Yes, we are spoiled here with affordable real estate prices. My dad & half-sisters live in San Jose, CA, and they cannot believe what we get for the money. My dad lives in a "million dollar home", but it's a 3 BR/2BA small 1960s rancher. Maybe 1600 sq ft.

We bought at the bottom of the DC housing market at $92 per sq ft. I could sell now for $129, but I'm way out in the sticks 34 miles from DC.

This morning was a perfect example of why I'm done....17 miles took me 1 hr 4 mins. Avg speed...16 mph.

I keep a close eye on Zillow and Hampton Roads/Owens Cross Roads new listings.

Just need the candidate company to send that offer letter...
