Wondering if you can share which ISP provides the most reliable service to the Huntsville- Madison area. Verizon had the most reliable service in the area I relocated from, so I still have that service. But for the first time I have had two experiences when I could not place a call. That did not feel good, especially since I opted out of a land line. I use a Moto-G phone if that matters. The ISP for my IPad is AT&T and sometimes the IPad seems to have more bars than my cell phone. I understand that this area is prone to stormy weather, so I may need a back-up phone service maybe? Your thoughts--

I have Verizon in the city of Madison while my brother, about a mile away, has AT&T. I seem to consistently have way better coverage than he does and he complains about having dead spots around the area. The last time we had bad storms, I had no trouble with my cell. His was out for several hours. YMMV.

I guess unacceptable occasional service problems are subject to the amount of use one puts on their device .. I have been with Verizon for over 10 years with never a moments trouble .. I recently went to a prepaid plan due to my low usage .. they have always bent over backwards to help me .. but someone who lives on their device will certainly encounter more issues ..

Well that is interesting! And good news for me. I don't want to just try another provider because Verizon treats you like a new customer when you return. Especially concerned about bad weather and was considering a back up throw away phone.

I had AT&T service when I lived in South Huntsville and also in Madison. AT&T I think would run an algorithm in the background that decided after 5 minutes that I was done talking and would drop my call. Even when I would have full bars my phone connection was unreliable. I had hoped that when I moved to Madison my AT&T quality would improve, but it didn't, so I switched to Verizon. Now with Verizon I typically get 3/5 bars, but I have never dropped a call.

I have heard some folks say that AT&T has better LTE data servcie in Huntsville/Madison than Verizon, but I have nothing to back up that claim.

I think Verizon has better coverage in Huntsville proper and along the interstates. However, there are holes in Verizon's service south of the river. Were were at Brewer high school and we had no service while our friends with ATT had 4 bars of 4G. ATT I think covers voice in Alabama better than Verizon. There is no service in Bankhead forrest with verizon, but there is some coverage with ATT.

Verizon by a mile. I used to have AT&T and I have MUCH better coverage with Verizon, which was the reason I switched.

Back in 2011, when the big storms hit, I was a NextTel subscriber.
My wife had one for her work, and I enjoyed the 'beep-beep' option it had...
When the storms hit (I live in Madison) - they knocked out service for my Nextel for days.
I got a plan from StraightTalk for 30.00 a month and it's actually on the Verizon towers... I love it!
I never get dropped calls - data is fast - meets my needs hands down.

I use Verizon and have had no probs placing any calls. I used to get a lot of dropped calls when I had a Samsung but have had no drops since getting my Motorola back in November. My niece works for one of the wireless places and she said that for droids, the Motorola has a better radio card or something like that, so it gets a much better signal than most other models. At&t won't even really come in where I live.

Verizon. Perfect service on both LGg3 and iPhone6 and iPad.
