Great news, but it's only going to be 75-100 jobs. Hardly an employment boon.....and it's in the middle of nowhere. Makes me wonder what the Jackson County officials gave up to land this deal.

Google gets electricity for less than the cost of production by TVA, a 30 year state tax abatement on most all taxes(use, sales, property,ad valorem, etc) free site work and infrastructure buildout, plus other unspecified monetary incentives.
At some point, Alabama will have a negative tax revenue status, we will be giving away more every year than we take in.

So we are basically paying Google to come here....all for the sake of publicity and 75-100 jobs, 25% of which will most likely be transplants anyway, and when the freebies run out, they'll move it somewhere else. Sounds like a raw deal to me.

I would think 75% of the "new" jobs will be transplants. According to the local night news, Google only got $50M and they will still pay $50M tax. So the money will never change hands. However, Boeing's $150M incentive is another story.

Yeah... Go away google. We don't want you here.

"We on the state level passed a new incentive this year that was part of our strategy called the investor credit. So the investor credit over 10 years will allow them to recapture $50 million – no more than $5 million a year in that 10-year period – against their $600 million investment. So it's a very reasonable approach for us."
