I appreciate what they are doing. I don't think it's going to be something that can effectively be managed or organized though. Sounds like the safest place to shop in Huntsville, at the moment.

The military is actively trying to get the issue resolved, there obviously is a need and who better to carry a gun, than the soldiers. There was never a need for this, except overseas, but, now there is & they are addressing it...no reason to get into a disagreement over it. Added to that, the military doesn't want them there...

Sure!

You might want to wear a bulletproof vest, though, just in case there's an accidental discharge.

The military doesn't want them there......maybe. They can only say what their commander in chief ....cough.... tells them to say. You know... the one that calls this stuff workplace violence.

This has been the military's stance for many more years than the one-who-shall-not-be-named has been in power...I really think people give him too much power This was actually introduced by Bush Sr and continued by the other-who-shall-not-be-named who was in power

Army to recruiters: Treat armed citizens as security threat - U.S. - Stripes

"In 1992, when Bush was president, the Department of Defense issued a directive related to firearms for military personnel. That directive replaced an earlier one from 1986. The directive doesn’t specifically address recruiting offices, but it applies broadly to military sites.

The 1992 directive, signed by then-Deputy Secretary of Defense Donald Atwood, didn’t outright ban military personnel from carrying weapons. Instead, it said that only certain employees could carry weapons, including those who worked in law enforcement, security and prisons. The directive also did not apply in certain situations, such as in war zones.

The policy explains that the intent is "to limit and control the carrying of firearms by DoD military and civilian personnel." So the policy did cover most military personnel."

Even though this "civilian from Huntsville, Alabama who refused to be identified" made the national news, attention spans are short and this local boy and his buds will hopefully go back to their day jobs soon. In the meantime, you may want to go elsewhere for your chinese buffet and fast food, just in case this happens.

Redneck? Racist much? I wonder if I dropped a couple N bombs or other derogs how that would go over. I guess you enjoy a nice double standard priviledge.

I couldn't agree more. In fact, I bet John Russell Houser's family and victims also agree with you.

Now that sounds like a call to arms, which is perhaps not what you intended. (Or maybe it is).

Our AK-toting citizens in the strip mall on University Drive may be well-meaning, but somehow I'll feel safer getting my subway sandwich and Chinese food elsewhere.

Actually.... some of the parents from Sandy Hook spoke up against trying to ban guns as they understand that it wasn't the gun that killed the kids, but the people. Not a call to arms, but instead a wake up that some of you better pay attention to. Look around at everything going on. Do you not agree that we somehow need to get it under control? If you do, how do you propose we do it? By restricting law abiding citizens from owning guns or providing protection to their fellow citizens?

Redneck is not a racial slur. I have seen MANY black rednecks.

How do you know they won't? That's the better question. If these folks are willing to risk putting their lives on the line to protect the servicemen and women who fight for our freedom I can guarantee that they will protect the citizens of this country as well.

I'm not standing out there with a gun because I have a family to support. That doesn't mean I don't respect these men from doing what they feel they can do. But I always carry and if I see someone in danger (assaulted, robbed, etc...) and I am there I will defend and protect them by any means necessary. As we all should be willing to do for our fellow human beings.

I don't care what color you are, nationality, gender, sexual orientation, etc... You're a human being in harm's way. If I have the capability to help you, I'm going to do it. A lot of the "gun toting rednecks" feel the same way. I know there are bad apples in every bunch, but those are typically the ones who sit back in the shadows and wait for an opportunity to do something really stupid, like the kid in SC. Not the people who openly offer to defend someone.
