yes, it's price and the fact that it's the only thing I eat whenever I dine at home.
So it helps me to buy in bulk.

A lot of the bags of frozen talapia sold around here is farm raised in China. Search the web for China farmed talapia to see what's said about it.

I think tilapia tastes like mud no matter where it is raised - none for me.

No wonder they're "mouth brooders" the Chinese farmers don't give them any room to breathe.
I hope the tilapia I've been eating hasn't been raised on human waste, either way I haven't been ill from it so far.

I'm given to believe that many don't realize that Tilapia is not a type of fish, but a genre of many fish. It is not like grouper or snapper or other fish we have known here all our lives. I think it first appeared in restaurants about twenty years ago. It is a little like scooping some cichlids from your aquarium and eating them.

I like my fish to have an ID, or at least be willing to undergo a DNA test.

Trust me, I know all about those insipid lake slugs.

Tilapia is still a valid cichlid genus, but most of the species originally included in the genus have been grouped into other genera and are still considered "tilapia" in the food industry. To me, they all (well, all I've sampled) have an unpleasant texture and flavor.

Some of the best tasting tomatoes grow on animal's poops and human urine. Just saying...
