I knew Alabama was so poor. Forbes used a picture of Huntsville.

And, this is surprising how? We are pretty much last in all the important stuff (like education, healthcare etc) and in the top for bad stuff, like infant deaths and drug related deaths...

But we sure wouldn't want to trust "big government" to educate our students or pave our roads or make sure the environment can be lived in. Keep on being backward Alabama and be proud.

I just did a quick check. All roads leaving Alabama are open and traffic flow is smooth, although there's a bit of congestion on I-24 heading to Chattanooga, once you've left NE Alabama.

Why is it when someone has a complaint about anything, they get "advised" to leave? Why not want change for the better? Madison Co has some of the top rated schools in the country, but, that is Madison - what about the rest of the state? Most of us live a great life here, why shouldn't the rest of the state be able to? Better schools, healthcare, social services? We have 500 homeless people in Madison Co alone, that is not even remotely ok...! Much as I think AL needs to change, I don't want to leave - I want to see improvement! If that is wrong, then...I'm wrong and I am fine with that.

Because transplants come to Alabama for work and complain incessantly about how bad it is in Alabama. I say, if you have so much to complain about living in Alabama, do all of us a favor and get the f&%$ out.

BTW - these whiners are all about attention, not getting things done.

Alabama is a great place to live and Madison county has been blessed with more out of state transplants than any other part of the state. And Madison County ranks high on most measures: livability, jobs, economy, health, etc.

Why not create a culture and passion for excellence? (Think football). It could be done but asking all who want to see a better state to leave leaves Alabama near the bottom.

Time to retire the "thank God for Mississippi" phrase. We can do better.

The only thing I truly whine about is something I cannot change, the weather - it is bipolar!

I know many are perfectly happy with status quo, and, I also know "the old guard" are fighting tooth and nail against change for anyone or anything (animals) - so, I am doing something about the latter, I am going to learn how to lobby for better & more enforceable animal laws...it is pretty much criminal how people treat their pets, and often livestock, and get away with it due to archaic laws - and no, it is not only AL, it is the entire south and middle US.

I think the point is that the rest of the state likes it the way it is. I am all for pursuing excellence, but I'm against forcing others to do so if they don't want to.
