Man, that seems like a long timeline.

I may have missed this, but what's the site for the courthouse?

Another downtown hotel proposed for the civic center garage
Across from the VBC. It would be adjacent to the planned Hampton Inn
And would follow closely the downtown master plan
A new hotel proposed for downtown Huntsville may be built on the site of the current Von Braun Center parking deck between Monroe and Church streets.

The city council will consider at Thursday’s meeting a proposal to build an Autograph Collection boutique hotel by Marriott that would be erected at the southwest corner of the current city-owned VBC parking deck.
The city is also proposing replacing a portion of the current VBC parking deck with a new public parking structure

The plans were spelled out in a development agreement between the city and hotel developers Ascent Hospitality Management of Buford, Ga., included in the city council agenda released Wednesday afternoon.

The city will demolish the “older portion” of the VBC parking deck along Monroe Street to make room for the new hotel, the agreement said.

This has been a wish for a long time, only thing is it will only be 6 floors

yeah another lost opportunity, but it will be a very nice hotel with rooftop bar and full service restaurant.
This probably puts an end to another hotel possibly at City Centre. Look for it to be an office type building instead.

Too bad they can't just put it on top of the existing garage. I use that parking garage when we attend VBC events. It's actually closer to the Concert Hall than the underground parking on the north side.

The Hampton is going to have to have somewhere for people to park, as well as the new Ascent hotel. That entire area will change a lot in appearance.

Part of the the site proposal includes a new city owned parking structure behind the hotel (only part of the existing garage will be demolished). 187 spaces are to be leased to the hotel to accommodate the 187-rooms. No details have been published on the total number of parking spaces in the planned garage.

The developer of the land North of the VBC (Coca Cola Plant site) mentioned that their planned multi-use development would feature a hotel as well. So 1 more in addition to AC Hotel, Hampton Inn, Autograph Collection by Marriott, Embassy Suites & Spring Hill Suites. Aside from the AC Hotel, the majority of the City Centre site plan is labeled as retail, restaurants and multi-family space. The only area without a label at the moment is the old Scruggs Recreation center site. Hopefully they use that land for more retail, social or green space, rather than more offices or an additional hotel.

Don't forget the Hilton Curio. All of those, plus one at the Coke site, would make 8 total downtown (or very near, as in the case of Spring Hill). Not too many years ago the only downtown hotel was the Hilton/Holiday Inn. It's definitely improved.

It's an eyesore, but it's also really convenient for VBC parking without a long walk. Hopefully they retain some event parking there.
