Should hear something about the design of the new federal courthouse in the next 3 or 4 months also.

There's a lot going on downtown.

I suspect some incentives were provided and concessions made in order to get all parties on board and happy with this new location.

Well, Touchstar owns the land so the developers either have to buy it or have the city do a condemnation.

Good on the theater owners for standing up for their property rights. I expect the new theater location will be leased to Touchstar to avoid any such difficulties in the future.

Expect an update on the new City Hall and new adjacent parking deck soon.
City Council has a work session tonight to get an update on the design.

Have you seen anything on the updated design? I can't imagine that the building would be smaller than the present one that was built over 50 years ago (it may actually be larger in usable area, but the latest concept I've seen was 5 stories whereas the current one is 8 or 9 with a fairly small footprint) when the city was half the current size and the metro about a third of the current size.

Update from the City
https://www.huntsvilleal.gov/city-co...new-city-hall/

The new City Hall, expected to be six levels with a five level parking deck, is anticipated to have double the amount of seating in new council chambers and include a facade that complements the character of its surrounding area in Downtown Huntsville.

Sounds pretty good. I wish there was some way an enterprising company could renovate the old city hall, removing the exterior marble that's literally falling off, and turn it into condos or something similar. It's kind of an icon of what little skyline the city has right now.

The plan is to build a new "iconic" building in its place once City Hall is out.

OK, that sounds great. Hopefully bigger and better. Sounds like it might be one of those buildings with retail on the bottom floor or two, parking a few floors above, then residential above that. If that comes to fruition, we can easily get over missing the current city hall.
