This was bad timing since they had just got another hotel the Embassy Suites to be located next to the Von Braun Center. A non-profit called Big Spring Partners was formed to buy the hotel. I think the company that managed the hotel agreed to continue to manage after it was sold. Even though Huntsville hoped the hotel would stay open at least another 10 years it only managed to stay open until 2013.

WOW.. that is quite the story to get one hotel built.. But Mr. Hammons had a good vision.. too bad his company that he left behind had to file for bankruptcy.. Was a lot of development after this frozen/pulled out of the city core? Was this due to the a small city thinking of past leaders?

MidCity has also signed a lease agreement for a Hotel Indigo on the lot fronting the "lake" and Topgolf.
Hotel Indigo, a branded boutique from InterContinental Hotels Group, is expected to begin construction in the spring, according to MidCity developers RCP Companies. It will feature 120 rooms in the five-story facility and is targeting a mid-2021 opening.

Not really "development", per se, but not deserving of a new thread either so I'll put it here. Frontier is adding another departure/arrival weekly flight to Orlando on June 1. So flights will be M-W-F. Seasonal service will also resume to Denver on May 1, also M-W-F. They'll continue to use A320 aircraft.

https://www.al.com/news/huntsville/2...o-orlando.html

According to the article about suspending flights to and from Mobile that was posted a couple days ago, one reason for the suspension is because Southwest is basically being replaced in Newark by Frontier, and they just don't have enough planes to support service there. Southwest pulled out of Newark because of the 737 Max issue, and Frontier jumped at the chance. No word on when or if they'll add sevice from Huntsville to Newark, but it seems reasonable. I don't think Huntsville has non-stop service to the NYC area at the moment.

Does anyone agree that "manufacturing" is the number one industry/employer in the Huntsville area? And the article didn't mention Mazda/Toyota, which will indeed be manufacturing.

While employment in manufacturing is diversifying Huntsville's economic base Aerospace & Defense still dominate Huntsville's employment.

It is strange that Mazda/Toyota was not mentioned. However, it may be because the article starts out talking about defense contractor Modern Technology Solutions Inc.

It didn't seem all that strange to me that it wasn't mentioned because most of these types of articles are just bs fluff written by someone that really has no idea what they are talking about. They do a few hours of random research online by doing google searches and reading other similar articles that were written by someone else who did the same thing in the last year or two and then they add a little more recent news to them that they found along they way. You just have to take them for what they are.....bs fluff articles.
