Finally starting some development around Cabela's? That would be nice.

Demolition of Madison Square is set to begin Feb. 6th
and across from Whole Foods an extension of that development
The council approved a measure supporting the annexation and rezoning of 5.43 acres of land located at 2615 Memorial Parkway S. The city plans to assist in the construction of a public parking facility, while the developer, Arora Properties, is expected to complete construction of a retail/commercial property within 24 months.

The development is expected to include three restaurants along with other space dedicated to retail

I went to Penney's and Sears last night for old time's sake.

Penney's was I think 75% off everything, but the top floor was closed and less than a quarter of the bottom floor was in use. It's basically like a flea market inside, and I didn't end up buying anything.

At Sears the whole space is still pretty much open though not so well populated, but some of the discounts aren't very good with some items discounted 50%. Sears has lots of fixtures for sale, and the prices for tables and racks seemed reasonable.

I think both are closing tomorrow.

I am happy that the theatre owners won their battle to keep their business , but I expect the city and developer will do their best to impair access to the theatre during the demolition/construction just for payback.

I confirmed with Discount Tire (yes, the real one that everyone loves with locations all over the US) that they are building their first Alabama store in the Huntsville area this year. I would guess it is going to be somewhere on 72, possibly on one of the parcels under construction beside Salsaritas or Aldi.
