I'm just kind of stunned that Baldwin County is going to pass Shelby County in the next year or two.

Baldwin County added slightly more heads than Madison County on a much smaller population base. For us it was 1.3%, but for Baldwin it was 2.3%. That's some serious growing pains!

I am amazed that Baldwin County isn't included in Mobile's MSA. It would easily bring Mobile to #2.
Probably because the Mobile Bay makes accessibility of the two counties difficult.

There's an error in the al.com article regarding the Birmingham Metro. Lee Roop says it's right at 1,490.000 while in actuality even the CSA is not that large, and the 7 county metro is only about 1,130,000. Not sure where he might have gotten his number from. Maybe he added in Tuscaloosa.

The actual Huntsville/Decatur Metro should be Madison, Morgan, and Limestone Counties, which would total about 575,000.

It'll be interesting to see what if any counties are added or subtracted from the metro area definitions. At one time, the Huntsville Metro included Marshall County.

The census.gov site must be innundated with folks trying to get on with the release of the new information. Can't get on for now, and maybe for a while.

I would think Marshall and Lincoln county TN would be close to being added as well.

I could see adding Marshall County back to the mix, but Lincoln is so rural that it might not make much sense. I think one criterion is the percentage of people who commute into the central city, so perhaps there are enough in Lincoln that come to Madison County to meet that criterion. There may be other requirements too though. I suppose it would make as much sense as the fringe counties that were added to the B'ham Metro in 2010 though.

Traveling I-565 in the morning or afternoon rush hour would make a person believe that Morgan County/Decatur certainly fills the bill. Plus, the three counties make a nice, neat geographical package.

The link doesn't work. Could be because the census.gov site is overloaded.

@RocketDawg they might as well give us Decatur, Fayetteville, TN, Arab and Lacy Springs. Hell, even Guntersville....I'm game.
