Just wondering everyone's opinion on this since there seems to be a ton of places. I like sweet bbq so I tend to lean toward Bob Gibson's in Decatur, but for best smoked meat its probably between Thomas Pit(hate their sauce though) and Dreamlands. There are a lot of places I haven't been. I was also wondering where I could buy a fully cooked Boston butt?

I like Smokeys a lot more than Thomas's; just two blocks farther west. I like the dry rib plate; great smoke flavor.

Smokeys over Thomas P?

Well that's a first. I loved Thomas Pit, so much I started the Fbook fan page 3yrs ago. But I worked at Smokeys, only 2wks, I always wanted to work at a BBQ place.

I still eat at Smokeys and it is good, when it is, sometimes it's off, I would say more than most places are off.

Greenbrier and Old Greenbrier are good. I eat at Greenbrier on 565 more often though.

Lawlers is vacuum sealed and steamed when it arrives at the restaurants, Whitts is also, but Whitts is better and the closest one is in Decatur.

New Market BBQ is great, but not worth the drive, unless you are passing it.

Gibsons on the Parkway is a classic, I have eaten there more than any other over the years.

Lastly my favorite is Jim N Nicks and they don't have a location here, so that doesn't count.

Lots of folks are fierce about their BBQ, but I question some of the loyalties.

Also I never get Pork, I always get chicken, so my experience only applies to Chicken.

Lastly David Gibsons off Bob Wallace doesn't have chicken and that is the last time I had pork BBQ 2yrs ago, it was good.

My favorite is the original Whitt's on Elm St in Athens. We get a sandwich every time we go to Alabama. There are several Jim n Nicks in Middle Tn. I'm not a fan; I don't like overly smoked meat; I like to taste the meat. Just my opinion

I'm an idiot, I LOVE Chuck Wagon, what I hate is their hours, they are always changing them on me and the only times I do make it, the parking lot is SO packed I can't find a spot, so I leave.

For about a year I would get there before 11 and go in the back door and wait for them to open, while the line would be starting outside the front door I would already be inside.

Mike and his son are great folks and have the best quality BBQ in town, but the price reflects that.

The $.35 wings on Wednesday are awesome...huge wings that are smoked and then flash fried to crisp them up.
