With the Zika virus a threat, Huntsvillians, I suspect will be in major mosquito control. People will try to prevent standing water and mosquito control trucks are frequently on patrol. I am hopeful.

Huntsville is a great place to live. I came here almost 50 years ago in the aerospace industry (NASA), worked for over 40, and retired here and have no plans to leave. The people here are much like they are in the midwest ... generally friendly. People are people no matter where you go ... you have good and bad. Just guessing, I'd say 75% of the adult residents have roots elsewhere ... lots of imports ... so it's not stereotypical Alabama.

Are we THE aerospace capital? No, but we're certainly one of them. And it's weathered the recession (some would say "depression") of the past few years very well, much better than most cities.

Huntsville is actually a bit like LA, but just about 1/50th the size. It's sprawled out all over the place and generally low density. LA has nicer weather (it's hot and humid here in the summer, and gets pretty cold in the winter), but we have a lot fewer people, taxes are lower, and housing is much, much more affordable. A million dollar house in souther California would be small and on a postage stamp sized lot ... sell it, and you could get a virtual mansion here. Traffic is minimal ... it gets a little heavy in the mornings and evenings but no big deal in general ... and it's certainly not the parking lots that LA freeways are. And if you're ever sitting in a traffic jam, the air is clear and not greenish brown like in LA. BTW ... I love California ... it's one of our most beautiful states.
