I have not settled on health care for vision. Would you share the name of an ophthalmologist (sp) that I might consider? I have no major vision issue- and want to keep it that way. 😏 Prefer the Madison area but don't mind other locations. Thanks in advance.

If you have no vision issues, is there a reason that you are seeking an ophthalmologist instead of an optometrist?

For general optometry, we go to eye Care Associates on Madison Pike are happy with them.

Ophthalmologists are harder. You couldn't pay me to go see Dr. Mitchell again. Dr. Lee is pretty decent. I haven't seen him since he split off from Maynor and Mitchell. My kids see Dr Calderwood at The Eye Center, which is downtown Huntsville. She's a pediatric doctor, but they have other staff for adults. I went there once over a decade ago when we first moved to town and don't recall any complaints.

In looking for doctors that are closer to me, it seems like most of the ones in the Madison area are retinal specialists. I need a corneal specialist.

Hope this helps.

What was your issue with Mitchell if you don't mind me asking? I was considering seeing him.

I sent you a PM, so that I don't get in trouble.

Well you have opened my eyes. I went to their site and read the reviews, but more than that, read a description of the role of the doctor of optometry as the primary care health provider for the eyes, who can detect medical concerns and refer to a specialist if warranted. I have thought of them as general care and vision correction only. I'll check them out. Appreciated.

I give my highest recommendation to Dr. David Parker at Madison Eye Care on Hughes. I can't say enough good tidings about him, his wife (Dr. Michelle Parker), and their whole staff.

I really like Dr. Morgan at Sam's Club. I used to use Dr. Wilson and obviously haven't required an ophthalmologist in ages. Never really went to an optometrist until recently. He found an issue and I was sent to the Retinal Specialists as it turned out I had a leaking blood vessel behind my eye. He found it very quickly and my exam was very thorough. I'll be going back to him for my follow up exam for my rx after treatment at the Retinal guys is done.

My (late) optometrist likely saved my life! I'd been traveling 500 miles every couple months to see a headache specialist (who wasn't helping my severe headaches much), and then I had my annual eye checkup with my optometrist. He looked into my eyes and says, "There's something back there. I'm sending you to (eye clinic) for tests. Turns out I had a massive pituitary tumor -- "the size of a grapefruit."

(NOBODY gave me much of a chance for survival, but that was 28 years ago, and I'm doing fine with no headaches.) Thank you Doctor Al Paulson, OD!

More recently I've had three different eye surgeries. After an initial follow-up or two (for each) with the surgeon, he schedules another follow-up with my optometrist.
