I just heard that the Base Commander announced the stables will close and all the horse have to be out by Monday. I can't find anything on any news outlet about this. Anyone hear anything.

The story says it won't be accepting any new horses starting May 1st, not that horse owners need to be out by then. They've been given 90 days with extensions possible.

I helped a lady move her horses this weekend because they couldn't stay.

Patrons had heard rumors over the last year or so about closing, but every time people followed up on the rumors they were told different things. Some people were told not to worry, others were told they'd get a year's notice if anything happened. On 4/27 they were told that the buildings are "condemned" and to have their things moved out by 5/1. Horses were permitted to stay in pastures but not the barns. Mind you, members have not seen evidence of the "monthly inspections" the post vet mentioned in the above news video, nor have they received any structural analysis reports of the barns. They are not permitted to have a second opinion done by an independent structural engineer. The real story is, the Army wants the land and it seems as if it's an excuse to get rid of the stables. No other location on the Arsenal to move the stables to would be considered, apparently. And throwing a bunch of horses out of pasture 24/7 is not a good idea due to potential health issues. It's just a bad situation all around. This article tells a better story:

The short notice sucks and the whole situation is unfortunate. It is the Army way though. The Commander makes a decision and expects everyone to implement his orders. In this case, civilians are involved and that is what is different.

I personally know of a boarding facility that has already made themselves known to the Saddle Club leadership. I'm told that several other facilities have stepped up and offered their services as well. The problem is the price "on the economy" is much more that what Saddle Club members had been paying. That is a shock to the system, but it is not likely to change.
