Will be coming to visit Huntsville this spring for a few days but that doesn't really give the full picture of the neighborhoods. We are looking at South of Huntsville, east of Memorial Pkwy as an area to live/retire to. No school age children. Can anyone provide their impression? It is close to places we typically shop at such as Whole Foods, Publix, Costco, Target, etc. Any other suggestions are welcome. Price is not as important as convenience for us. Thanks

That area encompasses like 50 square miles. Can you be more specific?

Generally speaking, that is a good area.

I would echo what RocketDawg said. If you want to be a little closer to everything then I would look between Airport road and Downtown.

Unless you have a specific reason I would not restrict my search to south of Airport Road. There are lots of good neighborhoods south of Governors Drive as long as you stay east of the Parkway. Blossomwood is a good neighborhood and it is even slightly north of Governors.

There is only one Whole Foods in Huntsville and it is at the intersection of Bob Wallace and the Parkway. Also there is only one Costco but it is north of University Drive so technically considered North Huntsville but pretty easy to get to since it is on the Parkway. You mentioned convenience as being very important to you so the further south you go the less convenient these two places will be. There is a Target off of Carl T Jones and several Publix stores in the south Huntsville area.

35801 zip code is crazy right now, but the further down Bailey Cove/Memorial you go, the lower the prices tend to go and its still a really good area and very convenient to a lot of the shopping you mentioned.
