Can anyone recommend great health clubs in the Huntsville and Madison area. I'm looking for a place that offers spinning and a variety of classes

I have heard the one at UAH is pretty good and open to the public for memberships. There is also a new club in the County Line Rd Publix Shopping Center. It is on the left side off of Browns Ferry Rd. Wouldn't mind hearing more about them - if anyone has been.

I used to go to the University Fitness Center at UAH, and I have to say its probably about as good as you could get. Saying that I seem to remember it being a little pricey for non-students (I was a student at the time, so it was free for me). It has pretty much any feature I can think of (olympic size pool, full cardio, full set of machine weights, free weights, 3 basketball courts, and an indoor track).

My wife is a member of the Hunstville Hospital Wellness Center which is smaller, but has at least 3 locations I know of that you get access to.

Both of these offer quite a few classes, mostly for free.

I was a member of the YMCA when I lived in the SE Hsv area. It was great as far as the pool, classes, gym, and child care. Since moving to the Harvest/Madison area I joined Riviera. I like it because its cheap, has child care, all females (at the Madison location) and EXCELLENT classes. I do miss the pool and there are no activities for kids, pretty much just a baby sitting room. But for the price I am VERY happy with it!

Huntsville Hospital's Wellness Centers are worth a look. And if you tend to travel all over the area in the course of your day like I do, it's great that I can stop into any of their locations when convenient to work out.

Wanted to revive this thread. New to the area, from Los Angeles.

I'm looking for frequent, intense aerobics and lift classes. Any suggestions?

Thanks!

If you can get a job on the Arsenal, theirs is free to military and civilian employees. If you are a contractor, it is only $15/month for all four facilities. If you keep your membership active after you leave the arsenal, they will allow you to get a base pass to keep using the facilities as long as your membership is current. Best deal in town!

YMCA?

Also, check to see if you can get into the UAH fitness facility. Not sure on the membership rules. May be open to everyone, or, through some sort of employer sponsorship.

I did some research on this yesterday. Anyone can use University Fitness. If you are a student it is free. If you are an alumni, it is $40 per month for them, then an additional $20 per month for their spouse. They have everything you can think of there.

Riviera Fitness is $35 per month with a $100 registration fee. However, they are running a special through the end of March---$19 per month, no registration fee, 24 month contract. A spouse could join for an additional $15 per month. The Riviera in Madison is for women only, the one on University Drive is for both women and men, and is open 24 hours.

Hope this helps.
