2020 census count for the state should be available later today, according to what I heard on television news. We should know soon whether we lose a congressional seat.

The report said California may lose a seat, while several other states (like Texas, NC, Florida) may gain one or two.

Ah, good. So the numbers have already come out? Looks like the Census Bureau hasn't updated it's "Quick Facts" pages yet though.

Looks like we went over 5 million - 5,030,053. That's a lot larger than the latest estimates, which I think were in the 4,920,000 range.

That's about 220,000 larger than the 2010 census - a quite healthy 5% or so increase.

I believe city/county results (or perhaps July 2020 estimates) will be out sometime late May.

So the county estimates will be out next week? It'll be interesting to see how those numbers look. I saw one source that estimated Madison County to be around 384,000, which would be a very substantial increase from the 7/2019 estimate of 372,900. I suspect the new estimates to be released might not be all that accurate since the hard census numbers are about 100,000 higher than the latest (July 2019) estimate for the state. After the election last November, and based on number of registered voters, I guessed Madison County would be near 390,000 by census time. We shall see (that's probably too high, but maybe not by much).

Also wonder if we'll see any change in metro definitions next week. I doubt it since they're supposed to be updated by some other formula - something like odd number years twice a decade or something of the sort. At some point, Morgan County will have to become part of the MSA.

Yea I'm surprised Huntsville hasn't absorbed Morgan County yet. if I didn't know the metro counties, I would have said that Morgan County was a part of Huntsville metro. I think of Decatur as part of Huntsville. It's the same problem that Mobile metro has. We've been waiting forever to absorb the Fairhope-Daphne metro but they have been just barely out of our grasped every single time. Commuting numbers are hovering around 23-24%, just barely out of our grasp
