You should try Nativity in Huntsville. I sing in the choir there, and our organist and choir master is the best director and musician I have ever worked with. We always sing quality anthems in the Anglican tradition. In addition, you will feel very comfortable with the liturgy if you are coming from a RC background. Be sure to come at least 5 minutes early so you can hear the organ prelude (the choir sings for the 11:00 service). It is usually Bach or another great composer. Additionally, we have outstanding clergy, great sermons, and wonderful fellowship. You will not be disappointed!

That's wonderful! That's what the organist at my childhood church used to do. She would play 5-10 minutes of prelude and it would be just so peaceful, contemplative and prepare one for the service.

I'm late to the discussion, but if the OP is still around, you could check out St. Mary of the Visitation Catholic Church in downtown Huntsville. The church used to (and may still) host organ concerts. We were fortunate to hear Dr. Rolf Goebel (German professor at UAH) play the organ there.

Preferably not too far west or north. Thanks.

I hope you find some good ones. The Episcopal Cathedral in Atlanta (my home church for several years) has a wonderful 4-manual Aeolian-Skinner that makes the floor vibrate when it really gets going. There is nothing like a good pipe organ!
