It appears that diversity is at the forefront of this selection process. The board voting in the female finalist will check another diversity box.

Seems Huntsville has skipped success as a requirement for the candidates. Both the DC and Birmingham schools are nothing to be proud of in terms of actual education. The OP is probably correct, diversity is the number one requirement!

That certainly seems to be the case. I believe all three candidates are black, and one is a female. That's not really "diverse".

Being black isn't necessarily a negative thing as long as that's not the reason they're being hired - they had a black woman some years ago (Ann Roy Moore) and she was good, according to my wife, who was a Huntsville teacher. Much, much better than Wardinsky. I've never heard anything bad about the woman who just retired. Too bad she didn't stay.

And yes, one would think they'd recruit superintendents from a school system that was at least successful instead of Birmingham and Washington, DC. Maybe try for one from one of the Dakotas - they seem to do really well with little per student expenditure.
