Are most located in Redstone Arsenal or neighbooring towns. We drove around Huntsville last week for a few days but didn't get to drive to Madison or Decatur. Love the views around Huntsville, the scenic rivers and the shopping areas.

There aren't really many Defense "Plants". Most of the work done in Huntsville that is defense related is program management, research and engineering. This is done primarily in Cummings Research Park stretching from UAH to the border with Madison just north of Redstone Arsenal. The bulk of the remaining work takes place on Redstone Arsenal proper.

No offense, but those of us who work for the Government or any of it's Contractors wouldn't give exact information over the web of any locations such as the one's you are asking about (at least they shouldn't be giving that out).

Nonetheless, like was said above, Program Management and R&D are the bulk of what is going on in this town.

He didn't ask for specific locations of certain facilities. It isn't exactly a secret which companies reside on the Research Park.

I have to disagree that there aren't really many defense plants. There are quite a few, located all around the area, from south Tennessee to Cullman and in between.
But you won't find a complete directory of them, and you won't always find a description of what they do.
I would suggest you attend a trade show or job fair in Huntsville to find them.
I know this because our company does a lot of subcontracting work for government contractors.

Maybe it is just me, but I don't personally consider "South Tennessee" and Cullman as part of our area. They asked for information "in and around Huntsville". The vast majority of work that goes on in Huntsville is not manufacturing related, it is R&D / PM. Yes, I do know there are a couple of small manufacturing companies.

Maybe you don't consider them part of "our area," whatever that may be, but they are shipping to defense companies in and closer to Huntsville.

Absolutely, but so are companies in Arizona, Utah and California.

Anyway, the point being that there are defense companies all over the area, but they are primarily office complexes and labs, not manufacturing plants.

Cheers,

No, they aren't big plants...they are small firms, working out of one, two, three warehouse/manufacturing buildings. They're all over. One item might have parts made by several dozen companies. They're the ones who take the blueprints generated by the engineers in Huntsville and turn them into actual items, to be tested by the labs in Huntsville.
