I just heard this on the news. I sure am sorry to hear that as it seemed like AL had so much going for it.

Oh well, win some lose some. I have mixed feelings about this. It would have been nice to have it, yes. But, I also feel like Alabama gives away the farm a bit too much to these corporations--sometimes to our collective detriment.

anyway, somebody on this forum said they had the inside info that VW would choose AL. Why did you lie to us!???!

I don't think anyone lied, they just changed their mind and went Chattanooga. Things happen in business, we should have seen the signs last week when they delayed the announcement.

To be honest, I can see both sides of that.. good for the area, meaning more jobs but then again auto manufactures seem to have more ups and down than some other businesses.

It is strange as everyone felt so confident that it was a done deal.

I have a feeling VW played Huntsville and Chattanooga like a fiddle. They probably knew that Chattanooga was the site a couple months ago but decided to "leak" information that N.AL was the choice to hopefully milk a few more million in incentives out of Chattanooga. What did they have to lose? It wasn't like one of the sites was going to all of a sudden back out and say, "forget it, we don't want you guys to build here." Both were salivating at the prospect of the plant with incentive packages in the 100s of millions of dollars.

Hmmm...interesting theory, RNC. Hadn't thought about it but it's possible I guess. Now that you mention the "leak" that made the folks in AL think that VW would choose their location--this could have definitely encouraged TN to pony up even more at the last minute. TeeHee--sneaky Germans!!! I can't imagine that no one really "knew" the decision until minutes before the announcement.
