Heading to Cullman for a meeting on Saturday afternoon. I thought I'd go sooner and see the area prior to the meeting.

Does anyone have any suggestions about stuff around that area?

There is a flea market in Cullman
Cullman Flea Market: Alabama Tourism Department (http://www.800alabama.com/things-to-do/alabama-attractions/details.cfm?id=1825 - broken link)
There is another flea market right off of I65 on the west side of Cullman.

The St Bernard Abbey or the Ava Maria Grotto (Jerusalem in Miniature) is also in Cullman,
Ave Maria Grotto

Now, Arab (20 miles S from H'ville on 231) is having a community fair this Sat from 9-3 at the city park. Arab is 20 miles NE. of Cullman. There will be a several re-enactments like a civil war camp fire and an Indian pow wow. Also there will be vendors selling items and food. You could easily walk around the fair in a couple of hours.. not that big and then take Hwy69 to Cullman and be there in 20-25 minutes..

Browse around their neat downtown area. There are 2 parts, divided by the railroad. There is a wonderful architectural antiques store - tubs, doors, mantles etc.
I believe they have a museum. Cullman has a very interesting and unique history.
Eat lunch or dinner at All-Steak Restaurant, which is at the top of a downtown bank - you park in the parking garage. Take home a dozen of their divine orange rolls - yum (groan)!

Cullman County is completely dry. No wet communities either. And the town was founded by Germans. Go figure.

Speaking of Oktoberfest...I went to the Redstone one last week and had a blast! Be sure to check it out next year.
