I'd second Dr Jan in Hartselle. We originally went there because they are the only Avian vet around. We liked the place so much we now take both the birds and the dogs there.

We've lived alot of places and used alot of Vets, and she is the most outstanding. My husband says his dogs get better care than he did ( 25 yrs of seeing flight surgeons in the Army ) and THAT is saying something. ( he always received excellent care ). She does not overvaccinate, rather, she prescribes according to our lifestyle and activities. When our older dog went downhill with a mysterious ailment a few months ago, she was so quick to zero in on symptoms and she was right on. She called the house frequently, too. She is smart, personable, and intuitive. There are two other vets in her practice and they are highly recommended too.
Dr. Jan has been on Good Morning America, the Today show, and she is a past president of the Alabama Veterinary Medical Association. We feel so lucky to have found her, in, of all places, a little country town ! It was important for us to have a history with a good Doctor who would be available for emergencies. The facility is clean, modern, with all the latest surgical and diagnostic setups, and there is boarding available as well.
