Can anyone tell me how bad the commute from Hampton Cove to Cummings Research Park is? Google says its a 20 min drive, but I imagine its a lot longer than that w/ traffic.

Ouch...that's a tough drive these days. 431 over Monte Sano (a winding road that can be icy during the winter), then through the hospital district on Governors Drive (one of the busiest areas of the city) which is currently being widened to 6 lanes and from there you may go any number of ways depending on where you work in Research Park. 20 minutes on a VERY GOOD day, certainly not during a typical rush hour.

I'd plan on 30-45 minutes, depending on start / end location, weather, construction, and time of day.

30 minutes if I didn't mind being late, 45 minutes if it's important to be on time...

Twenty three minutes from extreme northeastern Hampton Cove to Wynn and Technology, but, I leave anywhere between 530 and 630AM...still it's about 23 minutes.

I heard it is about 45 from HC to Madison but that is further than Research Park. I'd aim for 30 minutes to be on the safe side.

BTW if you are looking at Hampton Cove, it's a great place with super schools. Tons of nice neighborhoods and folks over there.

Welcome to the area.

Thanks everyone, looks similar to my current commute.

I just didn't know how bad that trek by the hospitals would be. We're going to be spending a few months in Hampton Falls apartments while we look for a house in the area.

30 or so mins is fine by me.

We just spent about five weeks living in Hampton Falls. Be careful if you have kids as some people there drive way too fast in the parking lot. The Bellsouth DSL internet is about 1.5 mbps (but there's lots of leaky wireless there too.....) The pool is nice, the fitness center isn't bad. No bugs.

We are currently living at Hampton Falls Apt.You will be able to get a good idea on commute time once you get here.Hopefully, the construction by the hospital will be completed soon. It probably depends on what time you leave in the morning if your communte would be 23 minutes or longer. When we lived in NOVA , the earlier you left for work the shorter your commute time.I really don't think Huntsville has any traffic problems after living off of I95 in Springfield, VA! My husband works at Redstone and it take him about 30 minutes to get to his office....but Redstone is big.

We are building in HC and we are on a short term lease here for 4 months. If you have children there are lots of kids here and a small playground. The swimming pool is still opened. We have comcast in our apartment and get 54.0mbps ....We have wireless.

Welcome to Huntsville!

heheh, I love how internet connection speed comes up in a thread on commute time.

Just so we know what's important!!

We're actually torn right now between doing a 3 mos lease or a 6 mos lease. I honestly have no idea how long it will take to learn the area and find a house.

Charles, how did you manage a 5 week stay??
