Going for our licences and hopefully registration. Can we get a first time AL driver's licence at a satellite office? I see that Southern Family Market is a satellite office and it says licenses are given out there but I don't know if that is just for renewal.

Do I have to have AL car insurance to get the tags? In Georgia we had to have a letter from our insurance company proving we had insurance and the right amount.

Thanks, but I looked at those sights many times and that is why I have these questions. These questions aren't answered there.

You have to go to the police station in Huntsville or the Redstone Arsenal. You need 3 pieces of ID--Birth Certificate, SSN, out of state DL.

You cannot get it at a satellite office.

We moved here 5 years ago and you can only use the satellite office if you already have an AL license. It seems we had to go to the courthouse and then to a state troopers post, or something similar. I remember thinking it was a ridiculous process. I would call the license directors office, since he is up for re-election, they should be very helpful.

Good news! We went to the DMV on Church st and it was a piece of cake. My husband got his DL and we were there less than 30 min.. We had to go back because my husband grabbed my hospital birth cert.. I thought the wait would be longer because it was a little later in the morning but we were there for about 20 minutes. Everything went smoothly and the people there were nice.

I still don't know if I need proof of insurance to get the tags. Since I haven't seen it mentioned anywhere I am going to assume that I don't.

One thing I think the DMV as a whole for the state should do is give you your license right there instead of mailing it to you. We got ours in Georgia while we waited and it only took a few minutes. In Georgia when we went for our tags they just handed you your licence plates and stickers right there. There is no money wasted in producing temporary tags and they would save a lot on postage!

You don't need proof of insurance for the tags.
But you will have the VIN checked if you get a vigilant bored worker. LOL

I got my DL the day I went to get it in Guntersville. I had to go to the courthouse to get the worst picture ever taken and then got the DL. I was going to the courthouse anyway to get my tag

You also will need a certificate of title from the lein holder or the actual title if you own the vehicle. We found that out the hard way.

Oh, and be sure to have your spouse with you if you are both listed on the title--found that out the hard way as well.

;(
