Huntsville is performing strongly, but it's not growing like you think. We're projected to be at the half million mark (for the entire metro) by 2025. That's significant, and we'll probably look different. But, there are alot of cities that are truly exploding in population -- Raleigh (a much bigger city)will nearly double its population by 2025.

For all the IKEA/etc wishing, here's a little story about why even Nashville (a city 3.5 times our size) can't land one...
Bellevue̢۪s quest for IKEA is a pipedream | Nashville Chatter Class

Here's the important part: "
IKEA doesn’t talk much about its criteria for choosing a location. But looking at where the stores have gone and pulling census data you can get a good picture. Take the store that opened in Charlotte early last year. Charlotte’s Metropolitan Statistical Area has about 1.7 million people. That’s roughly 200,000 more than Nashville’s MSA population.
Not too bad. But look closer. Charlotte’s MSA is five counties compared to Nashville’s 13-county MSA. Factor in 13 counties around Charlotte and the population grows to 2.6 million. IKEA opened a store in 2008 in Round Rock, Texas, home to Dell Corp. The six-county MSA has more than 1.6 million people. Both cities are peer cities with which Nashville competes for corporate relocations."

We have 400K. So, dream on baby.

We're growing. But, we're not going to be world's apart from what we are today. Our very poor strategic planning doesn't help (not moving the ballpark downtown, not being able to put on economically-successful tourist draws like the Jam...)

I went to the Ashton Springs community, and it has about 7 homes. The rest of the subdivision is just filled with weedy lots. UGH!

Friend that lives up on North Pwky mentioned to me that another Dirt Cheap was going in near the intersection of Sparkman/Pkwy. Combined with the location on Madison Blvd, this should be music to hubby's ears.

What is being built on South Parkway at the intersection of Mythwood and the Parkway? (across from Bandito South and BB&T bank)

I really hadn't noticed the place until a few days ago.

Also does anyone have any word on the Hardee's they're building WAY down on South Parkway at the intersection of Green Cove and the Parkway?

What's being built on Governors West, opposite from the Bridge Street end, behind the Eclipse/Comcast office building, where the road is turning into the overpass. My guess another office space? It would be an awkward (tight) location for commercial space. Oh, wait, a food court or something might work after all, the place is just feet I think from the RR (Norfolk Southern).

So why are sales so bad at Ashton Springs? $230,000 to $350,000 seems like a good price range.
