For the long time Huntsvillians and northern Alabamans do you think the weather we had so far since the end of summer has been about normal in temperature and about normal in precipitation?

Today was absolutely fantastic but it was about 20F higher than normal.

It seems we've had a lot of days below normal - some really cold days. I didn't do a statistical analysis but I'd be interested if locals think this has been a normal few months or maybe colder than normal. A few people at work thought it had been a little colder than normal.

IMO, this winter (and I am including all of December) has been cooler, cloudier, and rainier than anything we have seen for several years.

So far, this winter has been trending a bit more normal that the last 10 or 15 years...or at least what I recall as normal. "Normal" would be around two or three weeks, total, of REALLY cold weather - snowfall (there may or may not be any accumulation), highs in the teens-20s-30s, rain. The rest, highs in the 40s and 50s, with an occasional spring-like day.

So today's high in the low 70s was par for the course. Keep your sunglasses handy, you never know when you may need them!

Yesterday was the kind of weather I wish we had a solid 6 months out of the year...plenty cool but still T-shirt weather.

I still want snow...we got slush instead.

This has been our first complete summer here. It was cooler than I expected. We have, for example, only used our air conditioner a few times this past week.

Below is a graph showing August 2009 Huntsville temperatures, including normal highs and lows and record highs and lows.

It's been cooler and dryer, for the most part, than normal. IMHO. I've been here a total of about 45 years.

Yup. The better part of 31 years here.

...and I always enjoy cooler and dryer (humidity-wise, any way!)

Officially for the summer months (JJA) in Huntsville, we averaged 78.6 degrees, with 78 being the average; so 0.6 degrees above average for the summer. But, that doesn't really tell the whole story, as both July and August were below average (July -2 degrees and August -0.3) and June was about 4 degrees above.

August was the 40th coolest and 16th wettest on record in Huntsville.

The weather varied quite a bit around the region, as usual; the Shoals area averaged a bit cooler and drier during the summer than Huntsville.
