Charles, Tuscaloosa doesn't have any retail for a city it's size! Tuscaloosa is a fast growing city approacing 100,000 and doesn't have a Ross, a Marshall's, a Burlington, a Khol's, a Best Buy (proposed), and others! Tuscaloosa has a 20,000 populated city retail market. The only thing Tuscaloosa cares about is UA, which is so so so so overated it's ridiculus! All in all, Huntsville has a better and more advanced demographic than Tuscaloosa.

Thinking out loud...maybe the Chipotle corporate (and this applies to any business) performed a market research and analyzed trends and demographics and while Tuscaloosa is smaller, it may have a different demographic than Huntsville.

Well Tuscaloosa just has way less retail and restaurants than Huntsville, so they could use a lot more new stuff not that Huntsville couldn't support it but the Huntsville restaurant market may be starting to get over-saturated and I think Chipotle is catered a little more towards college students. Or it can just be random, we didn't have a Mellow Mushroom here and Tuscaloosa has had one for a while, a franchise can't expand everywhere at once some locations that it would really do well in naturally get left out.

I hate to destroy everyone's hopes, but Chipotle explicitly stated that Alabama was one of three states (where they already have locations) that it would NOT open a restaurant in the near future. But if you're dead-set on getting one, keep sending those emails; enough of them could change their minds.

As for me, I'll keep sending emails to ALDI. Why they haven't even bought land for a Huntsville store, yet they have stores in every city around us, has stumped me.

Yep, right across from the Galleria in Hoover, behind Wendy's.

What??
Decatur has a store that Huntsville doesn't?? The horror!!
And it's so f-a-r to drive to Decatur from Huntsville! I'm so sorry for you.

Certainly the main reason Tuescaloosa doesn't have more retail is that it's so close to Birmingham, but another reason, I would think, is that so much of the population is college students. That type of customer is not targeted by a lot of retailers...just as a lot do target it.

Tuscaloosa's chamber of commerce needs to pitch how Tuscaloosa draws from a wider population that just what's in the city limits. Meridian used to have nothing...now they're beginning to get up to speed...

Speaking of Tuscaloosa, I would kill to have a Taco Casa up here! YUM.

I'd also agree that it makes sense for Tuscaloosa to have a wider range of restaurants than retail. College kids like to go out to eat, especially to cheap-moderate places. But you don't have THAT much cash to spend, and when you do, it's less than an hour to drive up to Bham.
