I haven't been here long, and "large black professional population" is a bit subjective, but I'd have to say no - not that I've seen anyway.

I'd consider about 15-20% black to be about normal. Most of the offices I've been to look like they fall just short of that even.

That said, I have not noted much if any racial intolerance in Huntsville... I just don't see a lot of black professionals. It's pretty much average, or just short of it.

Depends on the company a lot of blacks work out at Boeing and on the arsenal because they do active minority recruiting, other companies especially the smaller ones such as Colsa, TBE, Northrup, and Lockheed have a little less but its a good number. Huntsville was rated as one of the best places in the nation to raise a family for blacks and has the second highest median income for all cities in the south (behind Atlanta) for blacks.

I'd agree and say "no". This is a high tech area, full of engineers and scientists. Go to any engineering college or advanced physics class in the country and count the black students. I think the professional demographic in Huntsville is a reflection of that.

Yes but there's also a historically black college in the area which I think increases the percentage of black professionals in engineering. And engineering aren't the only jobs here, there are a lot of logistics, financial and other type contract management positions on the arsenal that have a lot of minorities. I think the percentage of black professionals here is a little bit higher than you would see in some other places due to the hiring of a lot of A&M graduates. But it is true blacks generally blacks go major in other things besides engineering and science much more frequently. I guess i'm looking at to me 15-20% or more is high to me considering how many blacks were in my engineering classes at UA, thats why im saying A&M brings the percentage up. Otherwise I think it would have been more like 8-10% without A&M.

Basically, what ya'll are saying is Huntsville has a decent black professional population. So from what I'm hearing, Huntsville will satisfy my cousin a little since she is looking to be around black professional..............NO RACISM INVOLVED!

Racism is a different question, but no, I haven't been witness to any sort of racism in the time I've been here. I'm white, so that may be a factor - but that said, I haven't heard anyone say anything privately either.

By all accounts, Huntsville seems like a very fair, friendly and open community to me.

I apologize for asking that....I didn't mean that! What I meant is does Huntsville have a decent size black professional population or just black population in general?
