Section 8 Is nothing but a crime infested area's. It turns great neighborhoods into the darn ghetto. For us that worked our way out of the lower income bracket to a nice, safe subdivision t it is a damn shame. If you can't afford to live in these nice places you don't belong in them at all. I believe we should do away with section 8 and the projects all together, It would make those lazy folks get a darn job.I have seen it , if you give to them they take it but refuse to work for it, giving handouts is one thing but total support makes folks lazy. That is totally the truth.

Default $6 million to spend now

More details emerging on $85 million Councill Courts project near Huntsville Hospital | al.com

Dr. Phil Redrick, who chairs the Housing Authority board, said the agency expects to net more than $6 million from the land sale and lease proceeds

-- money that will be used to build or purchase affordable housing across the city.

"It's going to mean so much to our ability to deconcentrate poverty," Redrick said after today's meeting. "Our main concern is to benefit the (public housing) residents -- that's why we're doing this."

Is there any way we could just say no to having projects in Huntsville and abolish the Huntsville Housing Authority?

As an unsubsidized (non-Section 8) low-income renter, I am entirely unwilling to entertain higher rents to fund your project.

If homeowners want this sort of thing, let them pay for it. Renters have been subsidizing homeowners far too long.

Got homestead exemption?

If you look at the comment under that story, the HHA, or someone pretending to be them, shows up and condescends to everyone who is concerned. The residents might feel like they were heard more if HHA didn't seem to have such a bad attitude toward them.

That said, I really don't think there's much property value to damage in that area.
