Kaffeeklatsch is a lesbian bar downtown. It is a very laid back scene. I've been there a few times for a drink and I'm a straight man. That Partner's place is new, I saw an article about it in the paper. A couple other places to hang out would be House of Brews and Old Towne Coffee. Neither are "lesbian" places, but they have a more open-minded clientel and a really laid back atmosphere. I think almost anyplace downtown and in 5 Points area would be pretty accepting. I've seen gay couples at Humphrey's, Philby's, Furniture Factory... and nobody seemed to take much notice or care.

Default Yeah, I live here and I"m wondering too

Born here, but lived elsewhere most of my life.... what do all the gay people do here in Huntsville other than go to the bars and get arrested on Monte Sano?
jeez. I can't find any gay people here outside the dang bar or church... don't they have potlucks or something?

ZnotZed - the AIDS Action Coalition has a benefit, 'Dining with Friends', which is a progressive (as in moving from house to house) potluck dinner.

I know this is an older post, but any body know of any "GLBT" friendly groups in HSV? Someone noted there must be a group that does an occassional potluck. Thought it was a great idea...but I cant seem to find a way to connect outside a bar. Tho, I do plan to make it to a UUHC service soon.

Let me clear up one thing. Kaffeeklatsch is not a gay bar per se. It is certainly gay friendly though. I think when a place is labeled a gay establishment it implies the place pretty much caters almost exclusively to the gay/lesbian crowd. Kaffeeklatsch is clearly not exclusively a gay bar. It is a haven for free thinkers and more liberal minded types in general.

Partners is a true gay bar, mostly lesbian. And Ozz is a gay night club for dancing and whatnot.

Anyway, beyond the nightlife... I know several gay and lesbian folks in Huntsville. I really have never asked them much about their feelings on what it's like to be gay or lesbian in this town. But I must say I haven't heard them complain very much either. My perception is most people in this town are of the mind to live and let live as far as people's personal lives go. But don't expect Pride parades in Huntsville or anything. Apparently there is a pretty strong Pride organization in Birmingham though. Central Alabama Pride, Inc. - Home

I wonder what towns would be more gay averse than Huntsville. Some place that would complete this sentence "Huntsville is gay friendly compared to ________"
