Someone please recommend a good dermatologist. I understand they are all overbooked, but I just need the name of someone good. If I'm going to spend 3-6 months in the "new patient queue", I want it to be for a good doctor.

I made an appointment with Dr. Raby at Dermatology Associates. I forgot how long the queue is.

Second Charles' recommendation, but depending on what you're looking for (microderm, peels, laser), Dr. Robert Knowling is very good, too.

Mostly I'm just looking for someone to look at a weird mole and make sure I don't have melanoma. Thanks, I'll call Dr. Raby.

We've always asked our familiy practitioner to look at weird moles, etc. They can identify whether it's normal or that a dermatologist needs to see it and they can often set the appointment for you (get you in quicker if needed--as in the case of melanoma)

Yeah, I've had a couple of doctors say "I should get it checked out" but not with a lot of great urgency. I've been putting it off for over a year. I have an appointment with Dr. Raby - 2 month wait, which from what I've heard isn't as bad as some.

Alabama is so retarded its even worse in Tuscaloosa, they had 6 months plus wait everyone where I tried to get an appointment in Tuscaloosa a few years back. Huntsville seems to be somewhat better than Tuscaloosa but it's still pretty bad. I'm going to do what I've done for the past several years which is drive to Birmingham. It's inconvenient yes but at least I don't have to wait half a year to get an appointment.

Anywhere you go, there is going to be at least a 3-4 month wait. I live in Upstate New York, and it's the same here. My husband is a Dermatology Physician Assistant, and has worked in Minnesota and Nebraska as well. He says it is the same story across the country -- Dermatologists are just overbooked in general. A 2 month wait is really not bad.

A helpful hint -- if you tell them you are concerned about a mole they will usually let you in sooner. I just made an appointment at a Derm office I have never visited before. They told me the wait was 3 months. I told them about my moles, and they got me in 2 days later.
