HB, I have absolutely zero woodworking experience. I'm mechanically inclined, but woodworking - not so much. I was happy to avoid losing a finger in shop class.

I'm approaching this from a "I'm a smart guy, surely I can figure this out" angle. First project of the spring (and the only one I've gotten approved) will be a pergola. After cutting my teeth on that, I'll be building a wooden arched privacy fence. My wife is already predicting catastrophe and taking out the necessary life insurance. A shed/workshop is probably a long time off.

That said, if you still want my help I'm game... best to learn on someone else's materials lol

Well, this could be the case of one-eye man learning from the blind.

I have not even attempted on a pergola so you're way ahead of me.

I have so many home improvement projects that I want to do but my wife kept insisting on leaving them to "professionals".

Angry The home is good but service is bad

Anyone care to share their feedback on Nicholas Homes... the good, bad, and ugly

Thanks[/quote]

I bought a Nicholas home in Hampton Ridge recently. The home was a model home and it was built beautifully. However, the customer care after closing is very poor. It is nearly impossible to contact them since they are not answering my calls and hardly responding to my e-mails. I could go on and on but i am going to be nice. Nevertheless, I'd like to tell you that if you are going to buy a home or have them built one, make a decision wisely. Here is an option that my neighbor made and i thought he made a good choice. When he was closing for his home, he held $5,000.00 until all of punch list were completed. I hope this helps!

I would contact the BBB. Builders do NOT like seeing their BBB score drop. I'd get on that right away if they fail to respond!

They've got a "C" rating already. I'm sensing that they don't care all that much.

You can't get blood from a turnip....and I will leave it at that! Sooner rather than later you will see the bigger picture...

I would also be very wary of large spec builders requiring construction perm loans to build...that is a tell tale sign of financial chaos on the horizon. Right now, there is one that is doing that and it is a very risky venture doing business with him. That is how the downfall of Brian Homes began. It is like building a house of cards...they pull from one to pay for another debt somewhere else, eventually it all catches up and it collapses. Many buyers were left holding the bag with Brian Homes in this scenerio.

Also, there is a builder who is claiming to have a waiting list for building in a few of his neighborhoods....don't buy that either. It is smoke and mirrors. Also, unless you see the pool and clubhouse actually BUILT...there is not one. In neighborhoods that are not complete, you need to get out and talk to several homeowners to find out the inside "scoop" as to what is happening there. There is a neighborhood in Madison that is in the midst of HUGE drama....and some corruption in regards to the so called HOA. I smell a lawsuit coming...

Default Nicholas Homes

I just want to inform everyone that it has taken 3 years and $1500 to get this warranty work done. Nick Johnson will fight to the end to keep from HONORING his warranty work. He should NOT have license in HSV to do any work whatsoever.

Anyone who is thinking of purchasing or building a Nicholas Home should come to us first. He is most disgusting person to deal with.
