I've checked various employer websites and asmartplace.com and I've noticed a large decrease in the number of jobs posted for the Huntsville area compared to last year at this time. I wonder if this is because of Obama's announced defense cuts. Any insight would be appreciated.

I'm wondering if companies are just being cautious or are programs losing follow-on money. The drop is postings is scary.

If it isn't good in Huntsville, it must be worse just about everywhere else.

What went on last year was all the hype about having a shortage of workers. So, a big push was made to entice people to move to Huntsville.

Maybe it's like the book "Grapes of Wrath" where people believed there was going to be plentiful jobs to pick oranges in California.

I disagree because Huntsville is top rated for a lot of things, especially jobs. I think that the economy is impacting Huntsville obviously, but not to the extreme as other cities.

Speaking of Grapes of Wrath, just wait till the rest of the country sees all the hype about how great the economy is in Huntsville and they all decide to move here.
Be afraid, very afraid. You think the 80 million dollar jail is a drain on your taxes, just wait until the poor destitute Northern former union workers show up with no place to go

I am going to keep a copy of this, because in two years, I can look back and say, I told you so.

I wonder how that will compare with millions of illegal aliens pouring into Southern California.

Those illegal aliens will be pouring into Northern Alabama because they read about jobs here.

The $1.4B cut will come from not doing additional work that were in the plan. (I am being elusive since this is an 'open' forum). This obvious big impacts are on companies like Northrop Grunmann and Becthel (both are in Huntsville) and OSC (in Arizona).

Also, the MDA is thinking about breaking this 'LSI' model which Boeing is the prime integrator, and manage this big infrastructure directly (more civil servant & support contractor jobs). If this do take place in the near future, then these integration jobs will shift from Boeing to MDA. Don't know if it's a 'zero sum gain', but surely some folks in Boeing maybe affected.

The speculation continues....
This explains why Northrop Grumman's and Boeing's jobs postings for Huntsville were nearly non-existent on their web site.
