Can anyone please give me a reference on a really good (gentle) family dentist in Decatur? (I did a search, on "decatur dentist" and nothing popped up, so please forgive me if I am asking something that has been covered.)
I have great dental insurance and, having just moved here, need to find my new dentist. Hartselle or Decatur area would be great! Thanks in advance!

Funny you bring this up. I use Delta Dental insurance and I want to see a periodontist. The only one in the DD database is in Decatur. So I am going all the way out there next week - for a 7AM appointment believe it or not.

We have a bunch of dentists in Decatur. I think it's because Saginaw Steering Gear (later named Delphi) had excellent dental benefits back in the day...they were about the first company to offer that.

Anyway...I've gone to Tom Willis for years and like him a lot (he can also do oral surgery)...I've heard very good things about Dr. Nails, Dr. Leach, Dr. Watkins, Dr. Hawkins, Dr. Sandlin, Dr. Smith, Dr. Stanley (pediatric), Dr. Murphree, Dr. Price, Dr. Teichmiller, and I'm sure there are others.

One thing I did NOT like about the pediatric dentist my kids went to: they were always trying to sell me something extra. Flouridated mouthwash, an anti-thumbsucking appliance...just constantly trying to run up the bill with unnecessary stuff. I moved my kids to my family dentist as soon as they were old enough.

Ask a bunch of people. When you hear the same names popping up, you'll have some good candidates.

Right, Southern, sorry I went down the phone list really quick and didn't see his name right off. Dr. Davenport has been around a very, very long time - longer than just about anybody, save Dr. Otis Kirby (another good one). His patients adore him.
