Mine's already padding her HS resume with her extracurricular activities. She's an involved student and into a lot of activities. I think she'll do great. Our HS has a great college counselor--not every HS does--and a lot of the students receive scholarships in one form or another.

I think it's wrong to teach our daughters to prostitute themselves in order to have a good and rich lifestyle. I expect my daughter to be able to support herself well and to be capable of maintaining her own standard of living. I am not raising her to be somebody's toy. It's a demeaning thing to suggest-particularly by a father.

Dramamama - When my daughter left for her first year at UVA, I jokingly told her to do well in class and to find a rich boy to marry. She did both!

OP - Would you like to trade tuition bills? I just paid $2,016 for two math classes (six credit hours). I think torture should be cheaper.

True--there's nothing wrong with Marrying well--haha--but most of the rich, educated men I know prefer beauty and brains! Your daughter probably has BOTH in spades!! I plan for mine to hook a smart, good-looking and funny guy with her equally as potent charms.

The women in Russia in the documentary were adults, fully capable of understanding what they were doing. Unless you are one of the uber-rich there, the standard of living is very low and prospects are bleak. They were only doing what they felt they had to do to attract a prosperous husband and ensure themselves a decent lifestyle. I admire them for that. Obviously, you don't, and that's ok.

Jsherman9901--I didn't watch the video because I never saw a link posted in your post. I was referring to another poster's reference and to the way the post about the Russians was slanted to reflect a negative, biased lurid opinion-- and I quote the post directly now:

My takeaway was based on the words posted originally... and I can't doubt that was the intent--to denigrate the women so glowing spoken of in the later post. I have no judgment on how poor Russian women (so much for socialism working to benefit the group as a whole) had to gain a higher lifestyle. My heart goes out to them.

Fortunately, for now, in the USA, we live in a society where hard work, effort and diligence is rewarded and women have the same opportunities as men. And I encourage my daughter to live well, live smart, be healthy and marry a man who is worthy of her and who honors her and respects her.


As long as we remain a free society, I have hope.
