Inspiration on Green Mountain | Huntsville Homes

Looks so pretty in the pictures, and "green" too.

Speaking of green building, we are going to the "green drinks" get together tonight. (9/14 at Pane e Vino, 5:30-8:30)

Sounds interesting!

I would check to see if there is a local US Green Building Council there. I would bet there is with Memphis being as big as they are. They may have some resources. Also, check to see if they have a Green Drinks get together as well. These are meetings that bring all types of people together who are interested in building green and living sustainably. There would probably be builders or people that are familiar with the construction community/resources. In Huntsville, we had "Green U" (Green University, I believe) that got all sorts for types together -- architects, builders, organic farmers, solar heating people, insulation folks.... you name it. There may be something similar there.

Just a few thoughts. Or you could do a modular home...some are even LEED platinum rated (US Green Building Council, Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design). Look for builders/architects that build to a recognizable standard like LEED. Earthcraft. Something like that, but more than just Energy Star.

I am no architectict, just someone who does this for Habitat, BS in Architecture. I will be glad to help out if I can, but I am in north central Alabama, not Mississippi.

If building, you may check out the guys who offer complete kits and will work with the owner as builder or help you find a contractor. I like the houses these guys build Hybrid Solar House > Home (out of NC)

Green Mountain is a nice area; lots of trees and vegetation. That development's lots are rather small, and their definition of "bluff lot" is wildly optimistic, although some of them genuinely are bluff lots. The lots with the views face east, so the view is of the Big Cove / Hampton Cove area.

The main disadvantage to living up there is having to go up and down Green Mountain Road, which is not for the faint of heart (although it's better than it was 10 years ago).

Those are nice! I sent the link to my sister. I don't know how efficient they actually are, but they have plans that are small, but not ridiculously small. I would love to put one of them on the river property.

Does anyone know if this neighborhood was ever developed? I really like the look of it, but from a distance (we are in the DC area) I can't find any indication that any houses were ever built. Thanks
