Older Vehicles not titled in Alabama. What happens if stolen? (transfer, DMV)

I just moved to the area and I have a couple older cars and when I went to get the tags & title transfer the said they do not title older cars 1975 and older I believe.

I forgot to ask them but how do you prove ownership if it was stolen or anythng like that. Also how do you sell them without a title?

Your tag receipt has the same document value as a title for these older cars.

In two cases youy can/will have a problem.

- When you drive that older car outside Alabama, because not every cop knows that AL has no title for these older cars.
- When you sell these cars overseas, then you will need a written statement of the issuing office that you are the owner of these cars.

I have shipped many collector cars to Europe and always made sure to have such statenent and a copy of the AL DMV laws.
