Second, on the form you'll have to read and sign, they tell you that the doctor's bill will be "billed separately" from the co-pay. I told them no-thanks and went to my regular urgent care unit instead.
I wonder if that is somehow new this year. That or she didn't know what she was talking about. We've been there several times for various things and have only had a standard copay. I don't recall if it was PCP or Specialist, but it certainly wasn't the ER copay. A couple of years back we did have an issue because the doctors are from the Huntsville E.R Doctors group of which most don't accept United Health Care. However, because HH accepts UHC, the doctors get paid by UHC.

We go to a group of family doctors that are excellent and have after hours care. I think that twice a week it is open to patients until 8 or 9 PM - not sure. They also have a day for early appointments, which my husband does before work.
The group is Valley View Family Practice and they are GREAT. However, not sure if they are taking new patients at this time.

I don't recall any doctors in CA or CO being opened on weekends for regular office visits. You either went during their regular office hours or you went to urgent care or you went to the ER. At Sutton and 431 behind Publix there is some sort of clinic with an MD on weekends, not sure about Sunday.

By the way, the doctor I go to here in Huntsville always gets me in within a day or two and I always get prime times like 330PM and I have never waited more than ten minutes: Dr. Garrard at Total Sports Medicine on Balmoral off Airport. Great guy. Younger probably around 30.

Otherwise, Dermatology Associates is like months and months to schedule and I waited two hours for an orthopedic guy at http://www.spineandneuro.com/

I don't know about these particular specialists, but oftentimes your PCP can call in for a sooner appointment. I know they have for Quin, if there is a need, they will try to get in you in sooner. Might want to try it next time.

Nor I in WA, OR, CA, or NM either. However, the doc office my wife works at (in TN) is now open for walk-ins 1/2 day Saturday. Also, I was always able to get in relatively quickly to the couple of docs I've had in Huntsville over the years.

The two-week wait HB2HSV noted for initial consultations is fairly standard, and actually quicker than some. Just think how hard it will be to get into see either a new or old doc once health care is expanded!

I moved here from Northern VA, DC area...Traffic there is really slow and maddening. You can get to anywhere in Huntsville in 30 minutes max.

If you like the bustle of city, traffic jams, stick to a city. This is a nice medium size town. There is some culture (museums/arts), some small sports teams (hockey and baseball), and lots of science. There are ample restaurants and shopping but you can always go to Nashville or Atlanta if you crave more options. People are friendly so if you are suspicious and want to remain anonymous you may feel uncomfortable to be treated nicely.

I love it here but I am a southerner by background. Climate is good but there are some tornados. If it is icy, everything shuts down (it doesn't happen often). Oh, and the cost of living is low, so your money goes farther.

It must be the CRS since I am getting old I seem to "recall" that I was able to see doctors on weekends back in CA. It's probably in the fuzzy memory of "good 'ol days" department.

The 2-week wait is standard? I am just an impatient guy then

After reading through the thread, I noted the majority, if not most moved to the area from out of state and from other parts of the country. I moved to Huntsville in Spring 2008 from Tuscaloosa (within same state). This area definitively has a tendency of making one feel like you are in a different place than Alabama. Walking along Bridge Street gives me that feeling quite a bit.

Tuscaloosa is "roughly" 2 and a half hours south and has WAY more humidity issues than Huntsville does. Naturally, cause it's further South. Growing up there, I would constantly step out my front door and want to run back in the summertime, it just felt awful. Since moving to Huntsville, I have seriously felt a difference in the climate and the summers are bearable compared to my hometown.

The traffic here, does get heavy at times, esp during the peak times, but that's true in most cities. Points were brought out that ATL and other cities experience ten times more traffic issues than we do, and I couldn't agree more. I cringe having to drive through ATL at any given time. I think the only time I've been over there and not experienced traffic issues, was in the wee hours of the morning...HAHA!! My in-laws live in Birmingham and during rush hour down there, you def. don't wanna be in/or around "Malfunction Junction".

I think the diversity here is pretty interesting, once again coming from Tuscaloosa, I might be the kind of person that thinks that. All I had to surround myself with was University of Alabama college students and local people. Being around industry professionals in this area has allowed both of us to receive a nice breath of fresh air, not to mention the fact that there's so much diversity in the restaurants here. We are big fans of German food and before moving to Huntsville, I had never tried anything of the sort.

I would def recommend this place to anyone that has the opportunity presented. Sure it has negative points, but you'll find that anywhere. It was a positive decision on our part and I think we've settled in nicely, but hey...to each their own!!!

I moved here about the same time and a lot of people have written or told me the past two summers (our two summers) have not been as hot/humid as normal. I've also written I didn't think the summers here were that bad or that long either. We'll see this next summer.
