Huntsville, Florence, Athens get snow...even Birmingham will get snow. Decatur doesn't.
A concept called "heat sink".

Couldn't help but think of this thread when the New York Times ran this story about how Russians are laughing at DC's reaction to the blizzards: Washington Shivers, Moscow Laughs - NYTimes.com

I was up then, too...wishing for that 2-4 inches. Watched our sweet little flurry, all 45 minutes of it.
Nope. Got a half an inch and a whole lotta icy pavement. Sigh.

I did not know that about Decatur. I'll stop cursing them now, because I've seen so many storms literally go around Huntsville and down that way...and of course up over the TN state line.

I pulled up a report that stated DOT finally got salt and sand for this past storm, this was dated the 12th...and were positioned throughout the state.
See, that's been a major difference...in the north roads get treated. Here, NOT. But maybe somebody caught on?

Gee, why are you cursing us? But it must have worked...we got about the same amount of snow last night...finally! And now it's melting on the south side of the house. No problems on the roads.

I think they do keep some for winter, but we usually only have 1 or 2 snowfalls a year, so the usual amount was used up some time ago.

You'll enjoy it.
When I first moved here I laughed and laughed at the driving (in)ability in winter weather and said "I won't let it stop ME!" And it wouldn't...if I was the only one on the road.

I found that while I might be able to drive in it many couldn't and you take your life in your hands.

I'll bet you find yourself staying in as well during out little dustings...

Hope the move goes well and that you enjoy Huntsville.

Yes it will be. You can leave the snow chains and snow tires in Alaska.

Where in Alaska? It's always been a dream of mine to go up there & do some fishing trips.

Oh I am the same way here! The first week we have snow, I try to stay in! All those "new" snow drivers can be scary!

We are looking forward to Huntsville! Just a few more months!

We are in Fairbanks. Lots of fishing around here!

It really is an amazing place and we are very sad to leave.
