City of Madison is a bedroom community very close to Huntsville. All schools are good (lowest 8/10 GS). If you work in CRP/RSA (Gate 7 at Zierdt), you could also consider East Madison (say east of Hughes Rd.) -Horizon Elem (take 4-lane 70mph I565 to downtown Hsv 10-12 miles), or maybe even Rainbow Elem(10-12 mi on US72-busier), and only 4-6 miles to CRP (but narrower and speed-restricted residential roads). There are many choices of apts in East Mad, even walking distance to Horizon. I would look into that too, considering you spend most of your time driving to school/work, and only on weekends go downtown. But don't be fooled, our downtown is not a "big" attraction, especially for 5-6 yr olds (except Big Spring Park, Von Braun Arena for concerts, children theater, Early Works). You might as well spend weekends at Dublin Park, Sci-Qwest, and other venues and events scattered across Hsv/Madison.

I just wanted to say "thanks" for everyone who replied/helped. We ended up deciding to rent a place for at least a year in Madison until we can figure out exactly where we want to be. Your comments and suggestions were most helpful though!

Hi Michelle. There's this site that I found pretty helpful when I was moving. It lets your compare your rent to the people in the area to see if you're being charged fairly. It also lets you see what's nearby. Here's the link if you want to check it out: Apartment Rent Comps, House Rental Comps and Rent Calculator - Compare Your Rent - Rent Jungle

Good luck!
